SWK 230 - LGBTQ Experiences: Discrimination to Liberation What do the Defense of Marriage Act, “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell”, and gender dysphoria have in common? Students will examine foundational knowledge critical to Queer Theory and its examination of homophobic and transphobic belief systems that inform personal behaviors (e.g., use of derogatory language) and frame social policy and legislation (e.g., blood donation qualifications). Students will explore the social, legal, medical, and political obstacles that LGBTQ people face and the impact on personal and collective agency. Credits: 3 EHS
