CRJ 235 - Juvenile Justice

This course critically examines juvenile delinquency and the juvenile justice system in the United States. Students will learn theories that frame the development of delinquency within the context of individuals, families and communities. This course will focus on some of the most significant issues that face the juvenile justice system and its professionals, including adolescent brain development, the school-to-prison pipeline, child maltreatment, substance abuse, poverty, mental health, disproportionate minority contact (DMC), incarceration and alternatives, peer relationships, and evidence-based interventions.
