CRJ 320 - Critical Perspectives on Criminology

What is crime? Who is considered a criminal? Who decides who is considered a criminal? What social and political events drove the United States to get “tough” on crime? What is the impact of mass incarceration on society, and what happens to prisoners who are released? In this course, students will challenge conventional assumptions and conclusions about crime and examine the role that bias and oppression play in creating and implementing crime policy and social control.
